Josh Mayes
Pastor
Meet Pastor Josh, he has been serving in full-time ministry since 2009. He has been happily married to Misty since 2005, and together, they are blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kendall and Lexi.
Pastor Josh started his ministry in Georgia and served two churches as a student minister before God called him to Mt. Vernon. Josh has been serving at Mt. Vernon since 2018. He is passionate about preaching, wants to be a faithful leader, and hopes to share a compassionate heart.
When he is not preaching and teaching, Pastor Josh enjoys playing golf, traveling, and watching SEC football. You might hear him saying, "Go DAWGS," when he cheers for his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He loves to study God's Word, connect with God's people, and serve those in need.
The Mayes family believes God has called them to serve the local church. They have a passion for people and their community and love the Lord.

Steve Britt
Music & Senior Adult Minister
Steve has served Mount Vernon Baptist Church since June 2003. He previously served churches in Georgia, Florida, Arkansas and Alabama.
Steve has a passion for music. He wants to lead our congregation to worship the One True King. He leads not only the adult choir but also the children's choir. His hobbies include hunting, fishing and spending time with his family (especially his grandson Zeke).
He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Steve is married to Shirley, who also serves in the music ministry with him. They have 2 sons and 2 grandsons.

Spencer Brown
Student Minister
Spencer became Student Minister in July 2023. Prior to serving at Mt. Vernon, Spencer was a high school math teacher and baseball coach in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Spencer desires to build strong relationships with students and their families in order to see lives changed by the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. Along with a desire for life changing relationships, Spencer has a passion to preach and teach the God’s inspired Word and to coordinate events that help students experience the love of Christ.
Spencer’s hobbies include playing golf, hanging out around the table with friends and family, and trying his best to match the energy and athleticism of middle and high school students.
Spencer has been married to his wife, Rebecca, since October of 2022. Rebecca plays a crucial part in the student ministry at Mt. Vernon. She loves talking with girls and pouring out her heart into their lives.

Jainia Durham
Children's Director
After 25 years of teaching, Jainia has currently retired from the Walker County School System. She earned both her B.A. and M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
The Preschool and Children’s Ministries at Mt Vernon have always been a love of hers. She truly believes that children are an essential part of the church, both present and future. Her favorite part of teaching children is that moment when the understanding of God’s love for them appears all over their faces.
She has been married to Bobby since 1993 and they have two children, a wonderful son-in-law, and a precious granddaughter.
