The country of Honduras was hit by Category 3 Hurricane Eta. The northern coast where most of Mt Vernon’s mission work has been done was inundated with up to 25” of rain in 24 hours. Our national media has been slow to give us details, but friends in country have confirmed to us enormous devastation. Many roads and bridges are washed away, power and internet is out over much of the area, with many homes and some whole villages washed into the ocean. There have been crops and livestock destroyed in a country already reeling in the wake of COVID-19. Families have been separated and the death rate is uncertain, but rising since the population of some villages is unknown. We have not been able to communicate with Punta Piedra where MVBC built a church building and sends monthly support to the church.

Our Honduras mission organization (AHMEN) is organizing a container for shoeboxes and relief supplies for December 5th. If you would like to directly affect the lives of many of our brothers and sisters in Honduras and know that 100% of your donation is used in country, please consider a generous donation for that purpose. You may give through the church, but be sure to write on the check..Honduras Relief Fund. Thank you in advance for your generous spirit.

REACHING America FOR CHRIST

Mt. Vernon is also fully committed to seeing the Gospel spread throughout America. We do this by supporting these ministries.

Annie Armstrong

Your prayers and gifts to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® provide support for thousands of missionaries. These men and women are planting new churches in unreached communities and meeting needs through compassion ministries. Every day, lives are being impacted and transformed.

National Mission Trips

Through a partnership with the Walker Baptist Association we have opportunities to serve on short-term mission trips nationally. Trips are family friendly and give an opportunity for families to serve other communities by helping doing construction, yard work, church planting or helping another church's VBS.

REACHING walker County, ALabama FOR CHRIST

Mt. Vernon is committed to seeing the Gospel spread throughout our local community. We do this through several ministries.

We have a group of skilled volunteers who help to build handicap ramps, make repairs and help with yard work for those in our church and community who are not unable to do for themselves.

Food Bank of Central AlabamaWe have a dedicated group of volunteers who help provide food and clothing for 120+ families regularly. On the third Saturday of each month there is a food distribution. Through our Senior Grocery Program, each month food is delivered to those who are not able to attend the food distribution. Finally, the Food Bank has a partnership with local schools to provide food and clothing for students in need.

Grief Share

GriefShare is a video based grief support group. Anyone can join anytime, for any loss of a loved one. Mt. Vernon and Comfort Care Hospice jointly sponsor this group. We meet at the Comfort Care Hospice office, 319 19th St W, in the upstairs suite. (Parking is available behind the building.)

The Pregnancy Test and Resource Center is a Christian, pro-life non-profit organization that reaches out to local women and families who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. We strive to offer a nonjudgmental and confidential atmosphere while providing a refuge of hope, grounded in the love of Jesus Christ.
